A Biorefinery is an integrated system to consider a whole biomass chain to produce bio-based products (food, feed, materials, industrial materials) and energy (fuels, power, heat) from biomass.
A biorefinery is a production methodology that integrates biomass conversion processes and equipment to produce fuels, and specific products with interesting added value due the process integration, derived energy production, organic fertilizer, and new marketable products lengthening the production chain.
By producing multiple products, a biorefinery takes advantage of the various components in biomass feedstock and their intermediates therefore maximizing the value derived from the integrated process.
